Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid – UEFA Champions League Semi Final

Barcelona comfortably advanced to the Champions League final following a 1-1 draw at home to fierce rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

Following a completely one-sided first half in which Madrid keeper Iker Casillas kept his side in the game, Pedro gave Pep Guardiola’s team the lead nine minutes into the second period.

Argentina’s Lionel Messi wins Fifa Ballon d’Or award

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been named the FIFA Men’s World Player of the Year for 2010.Messi was on a three-man shortlist with Barca team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta but, despite Spain’s World Cup triumph, the Argentina forward came out on top in the voting.He becomes the first winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, which merges France Football magazine’s European Footballer of the Year prize with the FIFA World Player of the Year. Barcelona defeated Real Osasuna 3-0 despite arriving minutes before the scheduled 1900 GMT kick-off after travelling by train and coach.The start of the game was delayed by 50 minutes before a Pedro goal and Lionel Messi’s brace ensured a Barca victory.The league leaders thought that the game had been rescheduled for Sunday after Spanish air traffic controllers walked out and grounded flights.But Osasuna said the Spanish Football Federation had not moved the game.
