Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid – UEFA Champions League Semi Final

Barcelona comfortably advanced to the Champions League final following a 1-1 draw at home to fierce rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

Following a completely one-sided first half in which Madrid keeper Iker Casillas kept his side in the game, Pedro gave Pep Guardiola’s team the lead nine minutes into the second period.

Marcelo soon hit back for a vastly-improved Madrid 10 minutes later, but the Catalans never looked in too much trouble and will face Manchester United or Schalke in the final later this month, which sees them return to the scene of their first European Cup triumph, in 1992. Continue reading


Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona: Spanish rivals share draw – La Liga

Barcelona remained eight points clear of Real Madrid in La Liga as the two rivals drew in the first of four games they will play in just over two weeks.

A Lionel Messi penalty gave Barca an early second-half lead after Raul Albiol hauled David Villa to the ground with a challenge that saw him sent off.

Real’s equaliser was also provided by a penalty when Daniel Alves brought down fellow Brazilian Marcelo. Cristiano Ronaldo, who had earlier hit the post, fired home the spot-kick. Continue reading

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick and set up another for Kaka as Real Madrid twice fought back from deficits to defeat Villarreal in an entertaining encounter at the Bernabeu.Villarreal led through goals from Cani and Marco Ruben during a hugely impressive first-half display, but they were pegged back each time by strikes from Ronaldo.The second half belonged almost entirely to Madrid and Ronaldo gave the home side the lead they deserved with his third of the match 10 minutes from time, and two minutes later he provided the pass for the fit-again Kaka to score his first goal of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to take his goal tally to 19 as Real Madrid survived late pressure to win 3-2 at their city rivals Getafe and trim the gap to Barcelona, the league leaders, to two points.The champions Barça had stretched their lead to five points with Sunday’s 2-1 home win over promoted Levante before Ronaldo scored in each half either side of a Mesut Ozil strike to keep Real on their tail. France international Karim Benzema struck a hat-trick as Real Madrid helped send Auxerre tumbling out of Europe with their fifth win in six games in Champions League Group G.Benzema, who has struggled for goals since joining Madrid in a big-money move from Lyon in the summer of 2009, netted in the 11th, 72nd and 88th minutes while in-form Cristiano Ronaldo was also on the scoresheet at the Bernabeu.
