Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid – UEFA Champions League Semi Final

Barcelona comfortably advanced to the Champions League final following a 1-1 draw at home to fierce rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

Following a completely one-sided first half in which Madrid keeper Iker Casillas kept his side in the game, Pedro gave Pep Guardiola’s team the lead nine minutes into the second period.

Marcelo soon hit back for a vastly-improved Madrid 10 minutes later, but the Catalans never looked in too much trouble and will face Manchester United or Schalke in the final later this month, which sees them return to the scene of their first European Cup triumph, in 1992. Continue reading


Argentina’s Lionel Messi wins Fifa Ballon d’Or award

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been named the FIFA Men’s World Player of the Year for 2010.Messi was on a three-man shortlist with Barca team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta but, despite Spain’s World Cup triumph, the Argentina forward came out on top in the voting.He becomes the first winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, which merges France Football magazine’s European Footballer of the Year prize with the FIFA World Player of the Year. Barcelona 2 – 1 Valencia :Puyol completes Catalans comeback

A Xavi-inspired Barcelona came from behind to beat pre-match Primera Division leaders Valencia at the Nou Camp and move above Unai Emery’s side at the top of the table ahead of Real Madrid’s clash away to Malaga.Second-half goals from Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol – both set up by the returning Xavi -turned the match around after Pablo Hernandez had given the visitors the lead eight minutes before the break.It was hardly a classic performance from the hosts, but a deserved success in the end.
